Portuguese soccer legend Cristiano Ronaldo has made history hours after launching his YouTube channel – he quickly garnered more than a million subscribers within the first 90 minutes of signing up.
The 39-year-old five-time Ballon d’Or winner who plays for the Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr and has represented Portugal in international tournaments for more than two decades, joined YouTube on August 21, sending shockwaves across the YouTube community as millions upon millions rushed to onboard.
“The wait is over. My @YouTube channel is finally here! SIUUUbscribe and join me on this new journey,” Ronaldo posted on Wednesday on his social media accounts.
A couple of hours after posting his first video, 1.69 million subscribers had joined the newly launched digital channel. And in less than 90 minutes, it had surpassed one million followers, breaking the world record for most subscribers gained in one hour.
Now, less than 24 hours later, the football great has amassed a staggering 15.5 million followers.
Ronaldo’s new platform is designed to give fans a glimpse into the life he leads with partner Georgina Rodriguez.
In one of the first videos, the couple reveal some of their secrets in the famous Mr and Mrs game.
Ronaldo also shares a number of his passions in another video, and gives his takes on NFL vs NBA, boxing vs UFC and Rafa Nadal vs Novak Djokovic.
