In honor of the founding of Grand Seiko Corporation of America in 2018, the renowned Japanese watchmaker has launched a series of limited-edition watches with dials inspired by kirazuri, or “sparkling painting.” This year, Grand Seiko is expanding this theme with two new limited-edition models: the SBGA507 and SBGA509, available exclusively in the American market.
Both the SBGA507 and SBGA509 models are crafted from Grand Seiko’s iconic 44GS case profile. They are made from stainless steel and feature zaratsu-polished surfaces and angular lugs, embodying Grand Seiko’s distinctive style. The watches measure 40mm in diameter and 12.5mm thick, and they include a signed winding crown at the 3 o’clock position, a finely-polished fixed bezel, and a double-domed sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.
Following in the footsteps of the original USA-exclusive trio from 2018, these models offer 100 meters of water resistance. While the watches feature display-style casebacks, Grand Seiko has not released images of the reverse side. Known for their detailed caseback designs, the brand seems to be shifting towards simpler casebacks, allowing watch enthusiasts to admire the Spring Drive movements within.
